Karma Yoga connects newly certified teachers who want real teaching experience with students who want to practice — outdoors, in parks and beaches and community spaces, at no cost to anyone who shows up.
Each pin marks an upcoming practice. Click to see details.
New yoga teachers graduate from their YTT programs with a certification and very little teaching experience. Studios are competitive. Building a client base takes years. Meanwhile, plenty of people want to practice and can't afford a regular studio membership.
Karma Yoga exists in that gap. Teachers propose a class — a date, a time, a public space they've arranged — and we list it. Students show up. No money changes hands at the door. It's just practice.
Experienced teachers are also welcome to use Karma Yoga to pilot new workshop ideas or formats in a low-pressure setting.
Any certified yoga teacher or movement practitioner emails us with a proposed date, time, location, and brief description. Typical venues include parks, beaches, and any public or semi-public space the teacher can arrange access to.
We publish the event and share it through our mailing list and community channels. No ticketing, no RSVPs required — anyone can come.
Attendance is always free. We practice radical inclusion — every body, every experience level, every background is welcome. The teacher leads. That's it.
If you've recently completed a YTT or other movement certification and want to gain teaching experience, Karma Yoga gives you a ready audience without the overhead of organizing a paid event or navigating studio politics.

All teachers who lead events through Karma Yoga are covered under our group insurance policy. You volunteer your time; we make sure you're protected while you do it.
Classes are always free. For students who want to contribute, we offer a suggested sliding-scale donation at the end of each class.
100% of class donations go directly to the teacher who led that event. Karma Yoga takes nothing from class collections.
To keep the movement running — website, email lists, and occasional teacher transport subsidies — we separately accept voluntary monthly contributions from community members who want to support the infrastructure.
Karma Yoga is an informal, volunteer-run community movement. We are not affiliated with any studio, gym, or for-profit yoga organization.
Organizing paid yoga events in public spaces typically requires permits. By keeping our events free and donation-based, we stay community-oriented in both spirit and practice. Donations are never solicited on-site or made a condition of attendance.
We are actively working to formalize our insurance coverage and overall structure. If you are an attorney, insurance professional, or nonprofit specialist who'd like to help, we'd love to hear from you.
Note for collaborators: The structure described here is intentional but still being worked through. Insurance coverage, donation logistics, and any formal entity structure are all open questions we'd welcome input on. This page is a starting point for that conversation.
